Apple Butterscotch Crisp

Ingredients:
- 3 cups thin-sliced Granny Smith apples, peeled
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup cook-and-serve butterscotch pudding mix
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup cold butter

Put your apples in the crock pot. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, pudding mix, oats, and cinnamon. With a hand mixer, cut in the cold butter until the dry mixture and butter look like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle all that over the apples. Cover and cook on low for 3 hours or until apples are tender.

**note – this recipe is for a 1-qt crock pot, so you may need to adjust the cooking time.

Chicken and Biscuits

- 2 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 2 cans cream of chicken soup (10.75 oz.)
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 small onion, minced or 2 tsp. onion powder
- 3/4 cup chicken broth or water
- 2 packages refrigerated biscuit dough (10 oz. ea.)

Place the chicken breast on the bottom of a 5 or 6-quart crock pot. Top with soup, butter, vegetables, and onion. Pour the chicken broth over the soup mixture. The chicken should be covered; if not, add more broth. Place the cover on the crock pot and turn on high. Cook on high for 5 to 6 hours. Approximately 1 hour before serving, remove the cover and pull the chicken apart in small pieces or shred. Tear the refrigerator biscuit dough into pieces and place it on top of the chicken mixture in the crock pot. Replace the cover and cook another hour or until the biscuits are done all the way through. To serve, spoon the chicken and biscuits onto plates directly from the crock pot.

Reasons to Use Coconut Oil Daily

Here's a newsflash I'm sure won't surprise you... nothing concocted in a laboratory can ever replace the value of what is found in nature!
Mother Nature is incredibly generous in the way she provides - offering a bounty of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrients to nourish your body so you can enjoy a long healthy life.
One fruit in particular - the coconut - is so abundant in its healing properties it's referred to as "the tree of life." And before World War II, people living in island countries, like the Philippines, consumed a diet that consisted mainly of rice, root crops, vegetables and an abundance of the ultra-healing superfood, the coconut.
The coconut is a "functional food" rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber - the essential nutritional building blocks for perfect health.
For generations, island people considered it "The Cure for All Illness" and consumed the meat, milk and coconut oil daily. Although this diet was high in saturated fat, Western conditions like diabetes, cancer and heart disease were virtually unheard of.
Filipinos and islanders were instead rewarded with a lovely youthful complexion, soft wrinkle-free skin, almost no skin cancer - even with excessive exposure to year round sun - and abundant good health.
Coconut oil in particular has been shown to protect you from viruses, bacteria, infection, cancer, thyroid, brain and heart problems... plus beautifies your skin - and even burns fat!
Coconut oil - a saturated fat - is chock-full of health-promoting properties - and is in no way responsible for high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease and the bad effects you've been led to believe.
Finally, modern medicine and science are starting to realize this fundamental truth... and it's been a long time coming. But sadly not before heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity and a whole host of other catastrophic diseases have reached epidemic proportions!

The Saturated-Fat Myth That Robbed
You of Your Good Health!

Before World War II, the miracle-healing coconut had been used to help alleviate:
  • Coughs
  • Constipation
  • Malnutrition
  • Skin infections
  • Toothaches
  • Earaches
  • Flus
  • And more!

But that all changed when the war ended and the United States proclaimed hydrogenated oils to be the "healthier oils." By the 1960s, a weak scientific theory claimed that saturated fats-like those found in butter, eggs, milk, red meat and coconuts - increased "bad" LDL cholesterol and were dangerous to consume.
Nothing was further from the truth! But this “health scare” was enough to push the public away from saturated fats and instead to refined vegetable oils. This was perfect for food manufacturers because they were far cheaper to produce.
It wasn’t long before Western-style diets made their way to the islands and the old ways were forgotten.
Cheaper, mass-produced hydrogenated foods replaced traditional foods, like the versatile and all-healing coconut oil that had kept the islanders healthy for generations.

And for the first time ever, diseases that had become prevalent among Americans… heart disease, diabetes, cancer and obesity started to plague the island nations.

Today I wanted to share with you a little gem we’ve found that has helped us out on a number of occasions when the panic of what to make for our next meal starts to set in.
It’s called The Paleo Grubs Book, and it’s hands down the number one resource we use on a daily basis to not only make Paleo work, but to make it work more easily.

Some key features of the book:

Desserts are Included – We wouldn’t have lasted a week on Paleo without a steady stream of waistline friendly desserts. Don’t use willpower, satisfy your cravings for the sweet stuff.
Crock Pot Recipes Make Paleo Easy – Includes a separate recipe guide full of slow cooker Paleo dishes that puts your success on autopilot. Spend less time cooking and still lose weight and look great.
Hate following recipe instructions? It’s probably not your fault, but the recipe itself. The instructions in this book are easy to follow, so much so that even we were surprised. And the photos are professionally taken, so they’ll spur you on to create what you see.
In case you haven’t noticed yet, The Paleo Grubs Book gets our highest recommendation and if you want to try it out you get it instantly, so you can cook up your first recipe tonight while you’re still excited.
One thing we’ve found, this book has actually saved us a lot of money, not only in the form of time, but also because:
– You won’t waste money buying unneeded items at the grocery store.
– You’ll learn how to make your own food from scratch rather than buying pre-packaged items.
– You’ll save yourself from the head trip of having to plan out your meals every day or week.
It’s basically a lifestyle upgrade that takes the Paleo diet from being a confusing and stressful monkey on your back to a simple and easy-to-follow plan that you can use to create the body you’ve always wanted.

The Top 5 Paleo Mistakes You MUST Avoid

Did you know that “going paleo”—eating the way your ancestors used to eat—is one of the best things you can do for your health? You can spend YEARS trying new fad diets and counting calories like most people, then end up feeling OLDER and SICKER than before OR you can stop chasing trends and start building a real foundation of health… one based on THOUSANDS of years of proven success.

The paleo principles are simple, but I have to warn you: they go against most of the “conventional” nutrition advice that’s been going around (and making people sick) for decades. Having an OPEN mind is the first step to feeling better.

Did you know that most people who struggle with paleo make the SAME common mistakes? That’s great news for YOU though. Once you know what those mistakes are, it’s much easier to avoid them and rejuvenate your life.

So let’s dive in. Here are the top 5 paleo mistakes to avoid…

1. Quitting Too Soon

Going paleo pays off for years and decades to come…

But RADICALLY changing your lifestyle can make for a tough few weeks.

There’s psychological pressure  from creating new habits. And it can be hard physically; sugars and grains are addictive, so you might not feel your best the first few weeks after you ditch them.

There are also social challenges. You might get funny looks from friends and coworkers. Your family could push back against the “new you.”

You won’t figure everything out in the first few weeks, and that’s FINE. Take action, make changes along the way, and reap the rewards for the rest of your life.

Whatever you do, don’t give up after just a few weeks!

2. Failing to Plan

Going from a typical Western diet to paleo is an INVESTMENT in your health. It’ll help you get the most out of life…

But it takes some work up front.

There are challenges—especially in the first few weeks. You have to avoid foods you used to eat. Maybe you’re stepping into the kitchen to make your own meals for the first time.

How will you handle dinner if you have to stay late at the office?

What happens if you’re running errands and get hungry for a snack?

These are the types of questions to think about. Coming up with a basic plan of how you’ll start your new lifestyle makes it MUCH easier to succeed. You can always tweak things along the way.

3. Treating Paleo Like a “Detox” Diet

Grains. Sugars. Dairy. Legumes. Paleo’s “things to avoid” list can seem overwhelming.

A lot of paleo rookies focus too much on what to get rid of and not enough on what they should eat instead. They see paleo as a “detox” instead of a healthy new lifestyle.

Worrying ONLY about which foods to cut out is a recipe for disaster. You don’t get enough calories because you aren’t thinking about all the extra protein and fats you need…

So you end up hungry, tired, and annoyed. That’s no place to be when you’re trying to change the way you eat and live.

Paleo isn’t a detox. It’s about making the right food choices, not just AVOIDING a lot of stuff.

4. Obsessing over Perfection

Another common paleo mistake: people think it’s an “all or nothing” deal.

They beat themselves up for swiping a few French fries from their spouse’s plate. Or they decide paleo “isn’t for them” after giving into a sugar craving or two.

It doesn’t have to be this way!

Progress—not perfection—is the goal.

Every good decision helps. Eating well all day, then eating ice cream after dinner, is MUCH better than eating terribly all day and then having the ice cream.

It’s healthier to view being “perfectly paleo” as an ideal instead of a requirement.

Try to make the best choices you can… but don’t quit if you get off track. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. That’s the path to long-term success.

5. Feeling Scared of Carbs

Carbs AREN’T evil, despite what a lot of people say.

Low-carb diets can work great, but some paleo newbies take the low-carb thing too far. They obsess over avoiding all carbs—even if they come from starchy vegetables or fruits.

This can leave you hungry all the time if you don’t replace those carbs with plenty of protein and healthy fats…

It’s even harder on people who work out a lot. They would have an easier time with paleo if they added healthy carbs to make up for the huge demands they put on their bodies.

How many carbs people need VARIES. So if you feel terrible eating low-carb paleo, try adding some carbs into the mix. They might be just what you need to get your new lifestyle on track.

“So, What Do I Do Next?”

Now that you know the common paleo mistakes, you’re in a good position to avoid them and revitalize your life.

But it still takes effort and willpower. Especially at first.

So why not tip the odds in your favor?

Instead of stumbling over new ground all alone, you can turn to a BLUEPRINT designed to help you succeed.

The PaleoHacks cookbook is that blueprint.

Every recipe inside (there are around 200 in the cookbook and free bonus recipes) is delicious, easy to make, and 100% paleo-friendly.
